The last month has been pretty rough for thousands of Indian PayPal account holders especially merchants and businesses which do daily transactions. I myself have not been able to make any paypal withdrawals for more than a month, so I understand the frustration. I used an Xoom to withdraw money to Indian banks.
If yo
u have not been aware till now, you can have a quick read on the issues via this blog about the paypal issues for Indians and an open letter from Farhad Irani. In a nutshell, Indian PayPal account holders have not been able to withdraw money to their local banks since the past month following some issues Reserve bank of India(RBI) and also they have stopped allowing personal gift transfers.
Just today I received an e-mail from Paypal stating that they have resolved the issue and still in talks with RBI to put strict regulations in practice. There will be a new exporters code field added and this detail will be required to enable transactions. This makes it possible for business owners to start withdrawing money to their local bank accounts but individual vendors are still at distress. Individual payments are still suspended.
Paypal has not yet published the complete information about the process that will be followed henceforth but the same would be conveyed by 1st March. Following is the email received from Paypal:
Dear Paypal User,
We have been diligently working with the RBI and our business partners to resume Indian bank withdrawals for the thousands of Indian businesses who depend on PayPal to sell their goods or services in the global marketplace. Today, we are happy to announce that the RBI has allowed us to continue local bank withdrawals for settlements for exports of goods and services.
We are currently making changes to comply with Indian regulations for settlements for exports of goods and services, and we anticipate that, as of Wednesday, March 3rd, customers will be able to use our bank withdrawal service. As part of the changes, you will be required to fill out a new field entitled ‘Export Code’ when you request a withdrawal. This information is required under the current laws of India in order to identify the nature of cross-border merchant transactions.
On Monday, March 1st, we will be back in touch with specific instructions on how you can move your money into your bank account.
Moving forward, the RBI has told us that PayPal needs specific approvals to allow personal remittances to India, which we currently do not have. Until we get these approvals, personal payments into India will remain suspended.
However, if you are an exporter, you will continue to be able to use the PayPal service for payments of goods and services. In fact, with the changes we are making to our system, PayPal is now set to be a more powerful engine for exporters in India. With purpose codes for export transactions and FIRCs (Foreign Inward Remittance Certificates), you should now be able to get the export related benefits you seek.
Sincerely,
PayPal
Though the above mail did bring a wave of relief to the business entities, the individuals are still left at vain. This issue needs to be resolved fast as the major part of the account holders are individual entities.
You can also withdraw money from PayPal to Indian Bank via Xoom. Get money in 2-3 days.

Added to that: I would like you all to know that while the paypal issue was at its peek, I was trying out other services available and after quite an analysis and trials, I found MoneyBookers proving to be quite a worthy service and is a good Paypal alternative. If you haven’t tried it yet, do try. Though the paypal is going to be resolved, its always better to have more options. Signup for MoneyBookers…
Update: Find out how to withdraw money from Paypal with the help purpose code here.

Mobile phones have changed the way we live life today. These days mobiles are not meant for only making calls but actually are used for various purposes. They come loaded with camera, video options, mp3 players, games, internet, social networking options and a lot more. As mobile devices are getting sophisticated, so are they providing opportunities for vendors to come up with various services like ringtones, music, alerts and the latest videos. This is where mDistribute.com comes in picture.
mDistribute is a video licensing site meant for mobile content providers and filmmakers. Its a marketplace where users can buy/sell video content. In their own words, the website says:
mDistribute enables mobile content buyers to instantly license premium, high quality film content for distribution to mobile devices. Using our web-based interface, filmmakers upload and set prices for their films while content buyers “browse and buy” those films with ease. All licenses on the mDistribute platform are royalty-free, non-exclusive, non-transferable licenses at this time, creating a standardized environment for the buying and selling of digital film rights.
You can also call it as a video bajar or baazar. The website is presented by goLiveMedia.
The video licensing site opens up opportunities not just for mobile content providers but also for anyone else who likes making films. Anyone can make money with the help of this platform.
Currently you can register on the site via a simple registration form either as a Filmmaker or a Buyer. Filmmakers can upload their films, set a price for license(royalty-free, non-exclusive) and reach out to a huge network of content buyers. A buyer is a content buyer for whom this platform acts as a bridge for acquiring great royalty-free content which they can use as many number of times as desired.
For Filmmakers: Register, Upload and Collect Money
For Buyers: Register, Browse and Buy License
That’s pretty simple isn’t it.
Video Quality allowed: MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format 320×240 resolution, MP3 audio, 30 frames per second.
We found the website simple, impressive and easy to use. It has a user-friendly interface and is very clear in its purpose. The concept of video licensing is new and very interesting. Its bound to pick-up. This eliminates any third parties that were involved in mobile content buy/sell earlier and makes direct interaction possible.
mDistribute is integrated with PayPal which ensures secure, efficient money transfers. The website also reviews all video submissions and ensures that only high quality and standards compliant content is available at the marketplace.
mDistribute deducts a transaction fees equivalent to 25% of the video license value which I believe is very high. But keeping in mind that there are not many players in this business right now and also that one video can be bought multiple number of times, it can build up to good money.
So all you budding filmmakers out there, wake up and earn money online the new way!

Just a few days back I reported here on eWebBuddy, how Google will stop supporting IE6 and why IE6 should rest in peace, here’s another development! Latest NEWS tells us that a Funeral is being
organized in the memory of what has been one of the greatest browser on Mother Earth, Internet Explorer 6. (Sob) What a great guy he was!
After many web designer announced IE6 is dead, could this funeral be organized. Its happening at Aten Design Group located at 1629 Downing, just off Colfax. According to them ample parking space is available. The funeral will take place on Thursday, March 4th, 2010, 7pm.
You can RSVP for the event and be part of it to wish peace for IE6′s soul. (Sob) Oh! What a great guy he was!!
A website, IE6 Funeral has been put up for this purpose. Where you will also find the list of people who will be attending the funeral. Unfortunately, Google Chrome will not be able to attend but has sent their respect & good wishes. (Sobbb SOBBB) Really man, what a great guy he was…. (Sob)
DO attend if you CAN! The funeral would be carried out without the body but its the spirit that matters…
Did I tell you that he was a great guy????

Bloombox is the name of that device which is being touted to change how we get power in future and whats more inspiring about the device is: its made by an NRI, K.R. Sridhar.
Bloombox is the result of the vision and hard work of K.R.Sridhar and his company Bloom Energy. This is one of the first of the many green energy attempt that seems viable to some extent.
Bloombox is the name of the device or rather a box which produces clean, green electricity and can make the Grid/Power Companies go on a toss. Expected to be priced around $3ooo, this box has the capability of producing constant power for years. Though its not like it runs on nothing, to produce the energy, any form of gas fuel like natural gas, biogas, etc is required. All of us know that energy cannot be produced out of nothing.
Sridhar says that a small box is capable of running 1 american home or 2 european homes or even upto 4 Indian homes by producing around 1KW of power. Cool, huh?
That too, it produces no sound, needs nothing more, does not give out harmful gases.
Blookbox has a series of panels separated by cheap metal alloys which are capable of producing electricity with the help of a gas like naturalgas, biogas.
The panel is made of beach sand and is then coated with a special green& black ink in either sides. This ink is the secret behind producing power. When it interacts with gas and oxygen, power is generated. The more number of panels used, the more is the power generated.
Apart from the bit that it run on a gas form, there is no catch. You can argue that since it uses Gas as source, hows it good coz we are still dependent on others. Also, to produce the gas power is lost.
But we are looking at how generating power can get cheaper and greener here. Right now oil and nuclear power is the main source of electricity followed by water and wind. Oil and nuclear will not last for long and in producing electricity a lot of harm is done to the nature. That is where Bloom scores…
Also, Bloom energy is not dependent on one form of Gas, making it more feasible for use.
Sridhar unveiled the technology to the world just today via CNET and 60-minutes. It is currently under test by Google, Fed-Ex and Walmart. There are other biggies being lined up and they are saying that this technology looks quite promising.
Sridhar had raised 400-million-dollars for this project and its success is very important not just for him but also for his vision for a cleaner greener earth.
Though not everyone is positive about the technology, it sure seems that we are taking steps towards making this a better, cleaner and greener world.
Following is a NEWS article of the same. (Click on the article for a better view)
Check out the video below for more. Its set to revolutionize the way we use electricity!!
Cheers!!
Here’s answer to one of the queries asked by a fellow blogger. Sometimes simple things can confuse us and many of a times we see/use things without even realizing what it is. If you fall in either of the categories when it comes to Gravatar, you will find this post very helpful.
This BuddyQuery post takes along the trend of explaining tech stuff the simple way like earlier I had posted how you could download videos from YouTube directly and also how to stop Google Buzz updates from Inbox. This post is all about “Gravatar”.
Disclaimer- No, this is not an advanced, new-age version of “Avatar-3D”, infact its not connected to that at all.. Sorry if this information was a disappointment but come on, its high time now that you let the Avatar fever pass. ![]()
Gravatar in simple words is your online avatar, a visual representation of you for the online world. It stands for Globally Recognized Avatar. And what makes it special is, you can upload one avatar and be sure that it is displayed on every blog that supports gravatar. Sounds confusing? Well, don’t worry, it will be clearer as you read on.
So you can choose an image in jpeg or png format and upload to your Gravatar account. Once you do that, the image will appear on all the blogs/websites that support Gravatar when you leave a comment. For example, though here at ewebbuddy we do not display gravatar, if it would have been used and if you leave a comment to this post and you have set a Gravatar, the image would have appeared next to your comment! Cool, huh?
If gives a face to the comment and in a way also people start knowing you because of the Gravatar. It’s better to interact the person face-to-face and gravatar tries to achieve the same. Following is example of Gravatar from one other popular site. The images next to the comments are Gravatar.
Incase, you leave a comment on a site which supports Gravatar but you haven’t enabled one for yourself yet, it will look like this:
Its pretty simple. You goto
‘s Gravatar’s website and upload your image. After that whenever you leave a comment on a blog that supports Gravatar, you need to either use your username or your email id which you had used when registering on Gravatar’s site. If any of the two match, your uploaded image is displayed!
Hope you found this post helpful and you will not look dumb if someone asks you about Gravatar!
If you have more queries related to Gravatar, do post a comment below and let me know.
Also, do post your tech queries in the “Skribit” box in the sidebar and I will try to post their answers at the earliest.. Someone has rightly said, “Learning should never stop!”

Its been a couple of days but still if you are not aware yet, eWebBuddy is here to rescue. Everyday we hear of one or the other company launching new mobile phones. Some come and fizzle in no time, and some come to stay. If you have been drooling over the HTC Touch HD or Nexus One or even the Motorola Droid, here’s more for you.
Microsoft unveiled its latest phone based on the Windows 7 platform and boy-o-boy doesn’t it looks great. One look at the phone and you will feel like holding it. I won’t say they have come up with ground-breaking design or anything, but it sure does look great. It’s a touch screen (spice of the time) wide screen phone.
Microsoft has paid a lot attention to the software detailing, graphics and as always user-experience bit of the device. It will be shipped with either of OLED or LCD displays. So you can be sure of crisp display quality. Along with having most of the features of a traditional COOL phone today i.e. camera, music/video player, gallery, apps, etc…this phone has a lot of extras. To start with like iPhone comes with iTunes, this phone comes with Microsoft’s music offering Zune which is a cool player and has a great library. If you are a zune subscriber you can listen the tracks in the library for free infinite number of times!
Microsoft has played special attention on Social Media and Networking as that is rising to be one of the most important things for people around the world. With the help of this phone, you can easily sync, share photos over social networks. With a one-time login, you can be always connected to your favorite social network. Chat, update, have fun…that’s the funda. Not just that you can update your Status over a wide number of networks in one go!!
The touch-keypad is pretty handy and its auto spell check makes it really cool. If auto spell-check fails, you can simply go ahead, click-select-edit! ![]()
There are a lot of other cool stuff in this baby and I am sure you must be looking forward to getting your hands on one. For all the updates and NEWS on Windows Phone 7 Series, stay hooked to the official website.
Check out the Windows Phone 7 series promotional video below to drool more on this device.

“I’m feeling lucky”, wouldn’t you like to say that sometime and feel really good? I bet you would.
Well here I am not talking about just your feel good factor but about the Google Search Feature, “I’m Feeling Lucky”. This feature has been a part of the clean and minimalistic Google Homepage for a long time. Yup, I am talking about the button right next to “Google Search” button. If you have not noticed it yet (u use Google right?
) which is a little surprising, head to www.google.com now and have a look.
Now, there may be quite a few a few of you who are aware of this feature and know what it does but I am sure there will be a big gang of ones who have no clue! Well, for the clueless start feeling lucky! ![]()
When you enter a search keyword in the textbox on Google Homepage and click on the “I’m feeling lucky” button, Google will simply take to the link Rank 1 i.e. top-most link in their search results. This means you do not have to view the Google Search results.
This can be very handy if you know exactly what you are looking for and you are sure that your keyword will generate the desired result as the top-most one.
Many of a times we do not remember correct URLs of websites, or we are simply too tired to type the whole thing. Google being homepage, we simply type the name of the website and click on Search. Next time, instead of click search, click on I’m feeling lucky. I am sure you will start feeling so..
Fun Fact: Google co-founder Sergey Brin told public radio’s Marketplace that around one percent of all Google searches goes through the “I’m Feeling Lucky” button. This means that 1% of Google’s traffic doesn’t get to see Google’s advertisements, which costs the company roughly $110 million each year, which is about £67 million.
Google exec Marissa Mayer explained the reason for keeping such an expensive button:
“It’s possible to become too dry, too corporate, too much about making money. I think what’s delightful about ‘I’m Feeling Lucky’ is that it reminds you there are real people here.”
So, keep in mind now when making a Google search, there are ways you can feel lucky. ![]()

This is a kickstart to one of the sections I wanted to start long time back – BuddyQuery. This category will have answers to the simplest and smallest of Tech troubles. All you have to do is post the query in the “Skribit” box in the sidebar!
In this post we will talk about how you can Download videos from YouTube the easy way. I will not be talking about various softwares that you will need to download. The solutions present in this post are direct, online and ready to use.
Please find some of the methods that you can use below:
1. Keepvid.com – This is one of the first websites that came up and has been my favorite ever since. Its quite simple and gives you the choice of downloading the videos in either .flv or .mp4 formats.
2. Download directly – This option lets you download your video directly from address bar without going to any website. What more, you can download in the format you desire viz. flv, 3gp or mp4. Find the steps below:
Suppose you want to download following video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5ya0dehxms
Then after adding the OK the url will be like this
http://www.OKyoutube.com/watch?v=P5ya0dehxms – Will download it in FLV format.
If you want to download video in 3GP format then the url will be:
http://www.3.OKyoutube.com/watch?v=P5ya0dehxms
If you want to download video in MP4 format then the url will be:
http://www.4.OKyoutube.com/watch?v=P5ya0dehxms
Pretty neat, huh??
Apart from the above mentioned 2 methods there are several more similar sites and options. But why hunt for more when you know the best? ![]()

From the moment Google Buzz was launched, it has created quite a BUZZ.. Have you jumped the bandwagon yet? To me it seemed initial stages of how wave will be integrated with GMail. And frankly I wasn’t much impressed but that could be just me. What did you think about Google Buzz?
Well, coming back to the agenda of this post…if you have been using buzz and connecting to several of your friends one thing that must have irritated you are the Google Buzz Updates that you receive in your Inbox. Well if you have been looking for a work-around, here’s a trick that will come handy.

That’s all, from the moment you do this, you will stop getting Google Buzz updates in your Inbox and this way it will be un-cluttered.
You can also stop using buzz totally with the help of a small link at the footer/bottom of your gmail account. It says, “Turn off Buzz”. Get rid of Buzz totally! ![]()
