How to Activate or Deactivate Partial DND?

My yesterday’s blog post on what is National Do Not Disturb and how to register/deregister received a good response and I decided to do a follow up post of Partial-DND.

As mentioned in the earlier post, with the activation of DND you will stop getting any kind of telecommunication from various companies.
Now if you registered for this service, then you will also not receive sms for  Travel Notifications from yatra or Delivery Status from Flipkart.

To ensure you keep getting messages from companies you desire to be connected with, you can activate partial-DND.

Partial DND will ensure that you get calls from your preferred categories only and that too only between 9am to 9pm.

There are seven categories into which the message senders are divided into:

  1. Banking / Insurance / Financial Products
  2. Real Estate
  3. Education
  4. Health
  5. Consumer Goods / Automobiles
  6. Communication / Broadcasting / Entertainment / IT
  7. Tourism & Leisure

Update – List has been updated as pointed out by Amit. Thanks.

So if you would like to activate Partial DND for Flipkart then you will have to do the following:

Send SMS to 1909 – START 5

You can deactivate for a particular category by doing the following:

Send SMS to 1909 – STOP <Category Number>

Hope you find this helpful. If not do let me know…

  1. hi, thanks for a useful article. My question is, as someone who sends information via bulk sms to a select number of registered users, how can i make my sms as coming from the education channel, so my users can choose the partial category for education and recieve the sms?

please respond to my email id, thanks!@

    1. @Shriram – Glad you found the article helpful. I understand your concern but I am not sure. If I am not wrong most businesses have to be registered under one these categories that caters to their business. If you are a business enterprise then this should not be difficult. But if you are just an individual who sends such SMS then I do not think you can avail the Partial DND service. Your subscribers will have to be deregister from DND service to get your messages. Would dig more as I am not so sure right now.

    1. Banking / Insurance / Financial Products /Credit cards 2. Real Estate 3. Education 4. Health 5. Consumer goods and automobiles 6. Communication / Broadcasting / Entertainment / IT 7. Tourism and Leisure
