Nepal Earthquake – Helpline, Relief, Finder and Donation

Nepal experienced one of the worst Earthquakes in the last 60years over this weekend. What seemed like a one-time hit on Saturday morning and resulting in very little damage was followed by more tremors during the weekend. Multiple earthquakes lead to massive destruction and devastation across Nepal. With the reports coming in to say that about 3000 have already been reported dead, most experts say that the actual death toll is really high.

With technology improvements and better penetration since the last Bhuj Earthquake in 2001, there are a lot of outfits trying to help in terms of locating missing persons, providing relief and helping in any way possible. Below are some important links and information available to help Nepal Earthquake victims.

Nepal obviously was not prepared for such a natural disaster which is leading to a steep rise in the death toll. Frankly, you cannot blame a country for the same with such a low GDP. The is huge gap in the relief operations in progress and what the country really needs. Indian government has been helping the government in the relief operations. There are many ways you can donate and help the victims in your own way. Some of the options are listed below:

  1. Facebook – Facebook has tied up with International Medical Corps and 100% of all proceeds go towards the relief. Along with that the social platform has also pledged to donate $2 million. You can simply login to Facebook, donate and encourage others to do the same.
  2. Doctors Without Borders – There are 8 separate teams of doctors from MSF who have travelled to Nepal to help tend the injured and provide proper medication. You can donate to their cause here.
  3. Charity: Water – Lack of clean drinking water is one of the biggest issues during any of such natural disasters. A small outfit is trying to solve this problem and you can contribute via this link.
  4. Prime-minister Relief fund – For Indians this is the government initiative through which you can contribute towards all relief programs. You should be aware that PMO is currently pushing for a extended relief operation with the help of Indian Army and your contribution will help. Click here for PMRF
  5. Red Cross Nepal – Red Cross has always been on the forefront during such times of need. You can donate to Redcross Nepal via this link.

You can find a further expansive list of ways for Indians to contribute via this link from TheAlternative.

A lot of startups are also actively participating and providing ways for people to contribute like Uber and PayTM. My only disclaimer to all who are willing to contribute is to be careful about which outfit they are donating to. Unfortunately there are also people who use these opportunities to scam for donations money.

Wishing success for the relief operations to minimize deaths as much as possible. Please do #PrayForNepal. You can share your prayers and best wishes in the comments below.
