Bangalore Auto Union Reacts on Meter Jam 12th August

With Meter Jam gaining more momentum, it had finally come under the notice of the Bangalore Auto Union and they are taking it somewhat seriously. The first thing that baffled them was that this campaign was initiated online and they couldn’t figure out the source as to who started it. With so many newspapers talking about the 3 Mumbaikars who initiated this, this shouldn’t have been that tough. But what surprises me is that more than the issue, they were interested in finding who started this!!!?? 😀

Moving in the discussions, they talked more about the auto drivers denials rather than the tampered meters. They feel auto-drivers need to be trained and educated on the rules of Auto service. They need to be made understand that driving an auto is a public service. What ever is happening is because of lack of training! Can you really believe that…?

Meter JamWhat more they are planning to convince auto drivers not to deny auto on 12th August’10 and if they have to deny, they should explain the reason and help the people to catch another auto!

I have just one question here to ask the Auto Union Felllaass – This campaign is on 12th August, doesn’t mean we want 1 day of proper behaviour. The change we want to bring about is required to be instilled for a daily on basis! Will you be able to convince your auto driver brothers for that???

Meter Jam needs to be made into a Monthly or every Fortnight phenomena if we really want to bring about any change! What say??

  1. I prefer to walk rather then take a rick … these guys always demand extra money on top of what comes in their already tampered meters and misbehave with their passengers.

I am totally in for this

    1. @S.R Ayyangar – Banglr Traffic Police has started a 24hr helpline where any individual can call and report if the auto fellows dont comply. Also, many people are now aware of the rules and want to make sure they don’t get cheated. If not all, some auto drivers will have surely changed the way they treated passengers. All this makes me feel the initiative was a success. For further impact, the change will take time and we will have to celebrate ‘Meter Jam’ atleast every month!!

  2. There are genuine reasons for Auto drivers to return to a particular area at a particular time viz., for picking up or dropping school children;for returning the Auto to the owner or to another driver after his shift; for immediate maintenance of Auto at a known garage; for having promissed a friend to pick up due to a strong obligation; for returning home after finishing his day’s job;etc. In such cases, it is inhuman to give a complaint on such drivers. People and police should realise such driver’s plight and sympathise with them. I would even suggest to such drivers that they should keep two sign boards ready with them, viz., 1.TO SHED (…Chamarajpet..) and 2. “ENGAGED” and use them at genuine times.
I am sure, with these sign boards, people will realise the plights of the drivers and excuse them innerly and wait for another Auto. It is possible that some drivers misuse these sign boards, but let people think that such Autos are really engaged, as if some passenger is travelling inside in which case no one gives a complaint. Are such Taxis with such sign boards not plying on roads all the time? Can anyone give a complaint on this? Let the same system be used by Auto drivers as well. People should learn to have patience and not treat auto drivers like their servants. I wish some more people write the actual grievances of Auto drivers to explain to the public, in which case alone people will begin to appreciate their problems and sympathise with them. 3. One such area which I think requires a similar collective boycott is against the real estate sector. Property prices in mumbai are ridiculously high & is clearly a result of the builder-bureaucrat-politician nexus.

  4. I also doubt the effect since next day people will return to the regular auto driving..nothing to do with that. Thanks for sharing!
